Kirtan with Shubal
Shubalananda (Larry Kopp) (Bio)
The singing of Kirtan goes back thousands of years in India. Created by ancient Rishis from the seed mantras of the Vedas, the sounds are designed to resonate with your chakras to help move energy up your spine. These sounds, like Om Namah Shivaya, or Sita Ram, are then put to a simple melody. Kirtan is an easy practice. We sing the kirtan, call and response style, repeatedly, with more and more Bhava (spiritual emotion, or Ray Charles-like soul), until the singers enter higher planes of consciousness. Meets the third Friday of each month.

Tai Chi and Qigong Essentials
Dr. Greg Avedissian (Bio)
Tai Chi is a form of traditional Chinese exercises that grew out of the martial arts and became popular for its health benefits. The slow and deliberate movements make it a form of moving meditation. Qigong literally means “breathing exercise” and consists of specific postures, movements, and breathing methods. These exercises were traditionally used for healing along with acupuncture and herbs. This class will consist of standing, sitting, and moving qigong exercises and basic Yang style Tai Chi movements with an emphasis on the internal structure and energetics of the movement. While it will be appropriate for beginners, those with prior experience with Tai Chi will also be able to apply the principles to the form they know.
